Celebrating its second century, Rogue Ales is an artisan varietal brewery founded in Oregon in 1988 by Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser and Bob Woodell--three corporate types who wanted to open a pub. Rogue’s first brewpub was located in Ashland, Oregon and was a 10bbl brewsystem. Rogue opened a second brewpub, 15bbl brewsystem, in May 1989 located in Newport, Oregon. Rogue closed its Ashland operation in 1997, after the great flood destroyed the place. In 1991, the 15bbl system from the Newport brewpub, named Howard after Brewmaster John Maier’s former boss, was transferred across the bay to the current brewery and upgraded to a 30bbl system. In 1998 Rogue bought a 50bbl brewsystem, nick-named Kobe, which is currently the only brewsystem in use.
Rogue’s distinctive ales have been honored as Best in the World ten times by the World Beer Championships and have over 300 awards to their credit. Rogue’s ales are distributed in 49 states and exported to three countries. Rogue pubs are located in Newport and Portland, OR; Issaquah, WA; and San Francisco, CA.

Widmer Brothers Brewing Company

Portland, Oregon 97227
Brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer founded Widmer Brothers Brewing Company in 1984. For more than 19 years, the Widmer brothers have created deliciously original beers and overseen the entire brewing process from fresh grains to finished beers.
Widmer Brothers Brewing Company brews unique and authentic European and American style beers. After living in Germany and enjoying fine European beers in the 1970s, Kurt Widmer returned to Portland, Oregon, with a mission to create American interpretations of authentic European beer styles. His search for an original beer experience led Kurt back to a brewery in Düsseldorf, where he studied recipes of that famous brewing center.
The Widmer Brothers' special brewing yeast was obtained from the world-renowned Brewing Research Institute in Weihenstephan, Bavaria. This special yeast has been maintained at Widmer's brewery for over 19 years, and is an important part of the Widmer Brothers' brewing process.
America's Original Hefeweizen® is an excellent example of the Widmer Brothers' brewing success. The Brothers pioneered Hefeweizen beer in America in 1986 and America's Original Hefeweizen® has grown in popularity over the past decade. This golden, cloudy Widmer beer is kegged and bottled directly from the lagering tank and is not filtered, leaving Widmer's special yeast suspended in the beer. Widmer's Hefeweizen has been Oregon's top-selling draught craftbrew for over 14 years. Its tempting appearance and aroma combined with its robust taste and texture have distinguished America's Original Hefeweizen® as a Widmer Brothers classic.
Widmer Brothers Brewing Company currently produces an extensive line of European and American style beers year-round. These offerings include America's Original Hefeweizen®, Pale Ale®, Sweet Betty Blonde Ale™, Widberry™ and Altbier. Seasons and holidays inspired Widmer Brothers to be the first brewery to introduce seasonal beers to America—an idea that has spawned such favorites as Sommerbräu and Oktoberfest, returning each year by popular demand. In keeping with the tradition of hand-crafted brewing, the Widmer Brothers continue to develop new and exciting beers.
As the appreciation for high quality, fresh tasting, hand-crafted beer continues to grow, so does the availability of Widmer Brothers beers. Widmer Brothers beers are brewed in Oregon, and will be moving across the nation. Ask for Widmer Brothers in your favorite establishment today.
